Oh God, why?
Why would you take such a pleasantly wonderful film and try to milk it for more?
Why would you take nearly everything I liked about the first one and destroy it with this sequel?
Why would you allow all of those writers, directors and actors to forsake George Burns, leaving him stranded with these tone-deaf replacements?Oh God, why do you let bad things happen?
”There can't be good without bad, life without death, pleasure without pain. That's the way it is. If I take sad away, happy has to go with it”
Surely that can’t be your answer?
That is my answer…and don’t call me Shirley.

Review by Blake Bergman "Various Spaghetti" ★★★
"Oh, God! Book II" is a 1980 comedy directed by Gilbert Cates. A direct sequel from "Oh, God!" (1977), gone now is director Carl Reiner from the first film and central character John Denver. Systematically this does make sense because as the first film somewhat had Denver and George Burns (who plays God) in dual starring roles, Burns easily begins to overtake the presented spotlight. Plus, it's pretty evident that this story line was completed between the two of them with George Burns presentation of God needing to move on to work in more mysterious ways. This round he finds a 11-year-old girl by the name of Tracy. God once again seeks out a genuine person, this time Tracy, to…

1980 In Review - October
Little Tracy Richards is a seemingly normal girl, but one day she sees God (George Burns) in a restaurant and begins talking to him. She feels this is a call to create an ad campaign to spread God's word, but the adults around her believe otherwise. Her parents, Paula and Don, are worried, while psychiatrist Dr. Jerome Newell gives her an extreme diagnosis. But Tracy soon benefits from some divine intervention.
Unfortunately not every sequel is able to build upon the success made from the film before, the vast majority just end up rehashing the same ideas and storylines. This is one such case.
Oh God Book II is just a badly written, heavily… -

I can't believe I'm saying this, but I miss John Denver. In Oh, God! Book II, Denver has been replaced by an 11 year old kid. God decides once again to make his presence known and this time decides to do so to an 11-year old girl... which I must say is pretty ballsy considering all of the problems his church has involving little kids. The young girl, Tracy gets a message from God in a fortune cookie asking her to go meet him in the bathroom and she just does it without question, making you quite relieved that it's actually God she meets and not some sketchy dude with a van that says "Free Candy".
This one has George…

George Burns reprises his role as God in the follow up to Oh God! Here he begins speaking to a young girl and tasks her with coming up with a slogan and spreading his word, much to the chagrin of most of the adults in her life who believe she must be mentally disturbed. While the films idea and its execution are good it’s still mediocre compared to the original.

Kids today don't believe you when you try to tell them that there once was a time in cinematic history when studios saw no real value in making sequels to hit films. They thought that they might cheapen the brand… and they were right. The original "Oh, God!" came out in a post-"Jaws" and "Star Wars" world, but even the wild success of that sleeper hit didn't make it an obvious candidate for a follow-up, at least not right away. I was shocked that this sequel was not a rushed decision in the wake of the original film's success. I would have guessed this film had come out 11 months after the first, but no, this took a whole 3…

Review by Daniel Heaton ★★★
The sequel to 'Oh,God!' struck me as a bit of an unnecessary addition. The first film ended quite succinctly and it very much felt like the joke had run its course by the end. So, while im kind of happy that 'Oh, God! Book II' DOES manage to do some things quite well. It fundamentally isnt as good as the original and feels quite stunted on almost all fronts by comparison.
For a starters the plot is more or less a re-run of the first film, but with a bit more of a 'Miracle on 34th street' slant, as we follow a young girl called Tracy who's been chosen by God to carry the message forward and, using her knowledge…

"Sometimes you need to believe in what you can't see."
I've finally seen all of the Oh God! trilogy and I can safely that all of them are fun and send a message to the viewers.Oh God. Book II is about a young girl, Tracy, who gets a visit from God telling her to make a slogan that will spread the word of God. She comes up with "Think God" and has her friends and classmates help her spread the message whether it's chalk on the walls and sidewalks, or putting posters up on windows and trees. Her parents, who have been separated, and teachers think she's lost her marbles when she tells them that she's seen and talked…

This should have been called "Why, God?". I absolutely love the first one so this bummed me out. Hoping part 3 is a step up.
